LA COMPOSTELA
The tradition in the past is kept nowadays: pilgrims who accredit to have
done.
The Way will be given La Compostela in Santiago
They were and are put up in Hospitals or Hostels throughout The Way,
espacially in Real de Compostela Hospital, where, in the past and for
three days, were given any kind of need.
Nowadays, the Reyes Católicos Hostel, National State-run Hotel, located
in Obradoiro Square, offers a free meal to the first ten pilgrims each day
at 1 o’clock (every day). They do so to keep the old tradition.
In order to be able to Access this free service, the Pilgrim’s Office must
provide you (after requesting the Compostelana, a ticket which will allow
you to enjoy the meal in the old hospital. If you want to request you
Compostelana, you have to do The Way on foot, by bike or horse.
You have to cover at least 100km; that is, you can start your way where
there are 100km left to get to Santiago.
The Compostelana is free, although any altruist money offering is
accepted.
The only way to accredit that you have covered this distance (or more) is
with the stamps of your pilgrim’s passport.
Remember: you need at least two stamps per stage.
Together with La Compostela, you can request a certificate with the
whole distance that you have covered. The resquest is done at the
Pilgrim’s Office at the same time that you get your Compostelana.
You will have to pay for this document a small sum of money.
